Oakwood Healthcare, now a part of Beaumont Health, recently received the Community Partnership Award from the Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency (Wayne Metro) for its longstanding commitment to community health and wellness offerings.
The annual award was given as part of Wayne Metro’s Partner and Volunteer Recognition event held at Wayne County Community College Western Campus in Belleville.
“We are honored to receive such a wonderful gesture from one of our most revered community partners,” said Betty Priskorn, Oakwood corporate director of community outreach. “For several years Oakwood has made improving the lives of residents within our surrounding communities a top priority. And Wayne Metro has been a great partner in helping us carry out that mission.”
Whether alone or in collaboration with community-based organizations, Oakwood enhances thousands of lives through a number of free health-and-wellness offerings, such as screenings and health education classes. Each year Oakwood conducts health screenings at 24 different Wayne Metro sites, which has positively impacted hundreds of Wayne Metro clients.
Since 1971, Wayne Metro has offered more than 50 education, housing and health programs to low-income individuals throughout Wayne County. Headquartered in Wyandotte, the organization has more than 20 sites throughout the county, including Taylor, Dearborn, Westland, Highland Park, Hamtramck and Harper Woods.
