The Southern Wayne County Regional Chamber, in partnership with the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, presented scholarships during its Legislative Forum in late June.
The two 2017 scholarship awardees are Ana Timoficiuc, a graduate of Romulus High School who will be attending the University of Michigan to study aerospace engineering, and Ladell Watson, a graduate of River Rouge High School, who will be attending Michigan State University to study secondary education.
“We are honored to have the opportunity to invest into the education of these two intelligent and committed future leaders in the Downriver region,” said Ronald Hinrichs, the Chamber’s president. “I know they will both do well as they pursue their dreams and future careers.”
Permanently endowed and administered through the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, the Southern Wayne County Regional Chamber Scholarship Fund was established in 1992 to assist graduating high school seniors pursue an undergraduate education.
Up to two renewable scholarships of $1,000 each may be awarded each year to students entering college as freshmen in the fall. The Fund was created with contributions from the Chamber, its member businesses, and individuals.
The students must reside in one of the 21 communities served by the SWCRC.
SWCRC adds five new members to board of directors
The Southern Wayne County Regional Chamber recently added five new board members to fill vacancies on its 2017 Board of Directors.
The new members include Rachel Lane of Zeal Credit Union, Cindy Gorno-Czarnik of Gorno Ford, James Van Buren of U.S. Steel Corp., Tom Lawrence of Lawrence Technology Services, and Jeff Polites of Sterling Office Solutions.
The terms will expire on Dec. 31, and each newly appointed member will be up for election by the Chamber membership.
“I am looking forward to serving alongside our five new board members, along with our current directors who are all committed to the growth and development of our Downriver community,” said David Goodwin, the current chairman and owner of Goodwin, Lademan & Associates, an insurance agency in Wyandotte.
Those sentiments were echoed by Chamber President Ronald Hinrichs.
“I am honored to work with a tremendous group of leaders who are all passionate about our region,” Hinrichs said. “Our five newly appointed board members are eager to serve and I know they will do a tremendous job.”
