Former Trenton resident Linda Myrtle Schaffner, 69, of Canton, Ohio, died Nov. 15, 2017, after a short illness. Mrs. Schaffner, the former Linda Hoshaw, was a 1967 graduate of Trenton High School. She met her husband, Ohio native Steve Schaffner, while he was stationed at the Naval Air Station on Grosse Ile. Family members described her as “a loving mother who knew how to make each one of her children feel like they were her favorite … Linda had a kind heart that touched everyone she met and a smile that would light up the room.” She was born in Detroit on March 11, 1948, to the late William and Ethel Hoshaw. Her husband died in 2011. She also was preceded in death by her brother William and sisters Betty Miller and Helen Nickrand. She is survived by brother Joseph Hoshaw Sr., and sisters Georgia Collins, Vivian Valentino, Marjorie Johnson and Ilene Sams. She also is survived by five sons and their spouses: Kyle (Jennifer), Kirk (Lorraine), Kory (Leslie), Kent (Lynette) and Kody (Megan); as well as 12 grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, loved ones and her beloved dogs. A memorial service was held Nov. 27 at First Friends Church of North Canton.
