Each year, Grosse Ile Goodfellows are proud to provide holiday meals to local families in need. This holiday season, they added locally grown, fresh garden vegetables by partnering with the Grosse Ile Gardens of Hope and the Women’s Bible Study Group at Northridge Church.
Grosse Ile Gardens of Hope grows fresh organic vegetables year round in their hoop houses at Westcroft Gardens. They regularly provide produce for the Gibraltar Food Pantry, Grosse Ile Seniors and others in need.
The Women’s Bible Study Group at Northridge Church on Grosse Ile generously provided donations of tools, time and money to help the gardens in their efforts. The women of the group personally harvested and prepared the salads for delivery by the Goodfellows this Holiday season.
The collaboration of these three community organizations is a first attempt at providing fresh produce to the Goodfellows holiday menu. There is promise and hope for expansion of delivery of these types of foods to recipients in the years to come.
More information about the Grosse Ile Gardens of Hope can be found on the group’s Facebook page, Grosse Ile Gardens of Hope.
