Dr. MICHAEL DOYLE
We are off and running at Trenton High School. This school year promises to be an exciting one as we have made a few changes as we continue to move the building forward.
Trenton High School has added an online program for all THS students.
The new Trenton High School Virtual Learning Center will be staffed by teacher Josh Burk. The THS Virtual School will allow students to enroll in online courses for a letter grade, enroll in our E2020 program to work towards recovering credits, and we can enroll students in the Trenton Core Pathway. The Trenton Core Pathway is an option for students to earn the state required 18 credits for a high school diploma.
The Trenton Public Schools also has added a school resource officer to help, support, and educate Trenton students. The officer will be a part of all four buildings in Trenton to support students in a proactive role.
Beginning with the Class of 2019, Trenton High School students who take an Advanced Placement course will have the AP course weighted. This means AP courses will be scored on a five point scale. This will help all Trenton students as an incentive to take more AP courses, reward students who challenge themselves, and work to support students in scholarship dollars.
Other plans for the high school this year include working with stakeholders to make a decision on Trenton High School moving to either an international baccalaureate program or the advanced-lacement Capstone program. The building will also work to see if Google Chromebooks or laptops are a better option for THS students. And all staff will be working on our Response to Intervention (RTI) as we continue to help all students.
One of my enjoyments is sailing. Sailing is a voyage, which is a different type of use of the boat on the water. When sailing, we see all different types of people on the water, basically three categories of boating. Some people enjoy to fish, some like to powerboat, others seek pleasure in a sail. To me, fishing has a mission, to catch fish. Powerboats seem to have a destination, perhaps the cross-dike or Put-In-Bay. Sailing can be about the voyage, without a true mission or destination at times. Rather, sailing can be voyage-based on wind direction or exploration of new waters.
Public education also can have three categories. Education at Trenton High School can be a voyage. A voyage of exploring different classes at THS such as AP courses, autos, music, or any of the other electives we offer at THS as we use a trimester system. This trimester system allows students to take 15 classes a year. We also have a mission at THS; a mission we all have is to inspire students. Our vision is to continuously improve the students’ achievement.
We are all looking forward to a great year at Trenton High School.
