Over the past half century Martenson Funeral Home has become an iconic member of the Trenton business community.
Next month the 82-year-old company will celebrate the 50-year milestone of its West Road chapel.
Martenson family members and staff are inviting friends, family and the public to join them at the location from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 22 for a special open house.
The event will include a special 11:30 a.m. ceremony to erect a new flag in conjunction with a local veterans group. Company President John Martenson Jr. said that will be followed by an outdoor barbeque lunch (weather permitting).
At 1 p.m. event-goers can join the celebration inside for the official anniversary cake cutting with local dignitaries.
Families can take advantage of this celebration to stop in for a free family portrait between 1:15 and 3 p.m. One free print will be provided per family, on a first-come, first served basis with one pose per group. There also will be children’s activities, facility tours and an opportunity to meet grief therapy dogs.
“We have served so many families over the years, that we really wanted to say thank you for placing your trust in us,” Martenson said. “Please come and enjoy a fun and lighthearted event with us. We are looking forward to grilling up lunch and enjoying cake with friends as we commemorate our golden anniversary.”
The first Martenson Funeral Home was established in 1934 in Detroit. The Trenton location was established in 1965. The company also operates at several other locations throughout the area, including its Ridge Chapel in downtown Trenton.
Over the years, the entire family and staff have looked for better ways to serve families who have come to trust and depend on the Martenson Family, Martenson said.
The funeral home is located at 3200 West Road, just west of the Trenton Veterans Memorial Library. For more information visit the website www.martenson.com.
