It’s July, which means half the year has passed. June surprised us with some 90-degree-plus temperatures — Florida weather! What will July bring? We celebrate Fourth of July – Independence Day in these United States of America with picnics, fireworks and time for reflection on how this great nation has come so far and be known as “The Land of the Free and the Brave” with the government and individuals working together to keep it that way. Incidentally, July was named after Gaius Julius Caesar, who was born in the seventh month of the year.
Luau Pool Party: Wednesday, July 19 from 7-9 p.m. at Water’s Edge Pool. All ages welcome. $10 a person (ages 15 and under must be accompanied by a paying adult). Registration by July 17. Food, fun and music.
Wacky Wednesdays at the Pool continues through July 26 for ages 3-13 from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at Water’s Edge Pool; includes fun activities, arts and crafts and more; $3 (does not include daily pool pass).
Sign up for Swimming Session 2 from July 10-July 28. Offering preschool ages 3-5 up to Level 4. Also private and semi-private lessons, $35 per lesson. For more information or to schedule a lesson, call Water’s Edge Pool, (734) 675-0811.
Adult Lap Swim: Seven days a week from 7:30-8:15 p.m., $3 per visit.
Water’s Edge Regular Pool Hours: 1-7:30 p.m. daily, daily rates: residents $5 and senior/child $4.
Pool passes: Family Pass $140, individual $80 and adult 10 visit pack $45.
Pre-K Footgolf: Ages 3-5 on Wednesdays, July 12-Aug. 2 from 6:15-7 p.m. at Water’s Edge Golf Course. Bring a soccer ball each week.
Discovery Art Camp: Ages 6-10, Monday-Thursday, July 10-13 from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Centennial Farm Activity Room. Study famous artists, try different art forms, create your own art using your own ideas. All supplies included in fee.
Fine Art Camp: Middle School Students ages 11-14, Monday-Thursday from July 10-13 from 1-3:30 p.m. at Centennial Farm Activity Room. Learn art and design principals, sculpting, painting, drawing and more. Supplies are included in the fee.
Kids Beginner and Advanced Sewing Camp: Ages 8-12, Session 1 July 17-21 and Session 2 July 24-July 28, Monday-Friday from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Both sessions at Centennial Farm Activity Room. Classes include basics of sewing, pinning, stitching, pattern reading, and more. Sew at your own pace. Sewing machines are provided. Limit six students, questions: email Kelly at email@example.com.
Dog Obedience Training: Monday, July 24-Aug. 28 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Centennial Farm Activity Room. Dogs ages 6-18 months. Learn basic commands such as sit, come, stay and down and walking nicely on a leash. See list of requirements through Channels or online at grosseile.com.
Adult Fitness: Men and Women – High Intensity Training Session 2 on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting July 11-Sept. 21 from 8-9 a.m. Cardio, yoga, strength training and boot camp. Participants need to bring weights, mat, towel and water bottle.
Senior Fitness: Session 2, July 11-Sept. 21 from 9:15-10 a.m. at Centennial Farm Activity Room, 45-minute class that stresses flexibility, strength and toning. This class is for everyone!
Little Chippers: Ages 4-7, Session 3 Tuesday from July 18-Aug. 8 from 6:15-7 p.m. at Water’s Edge Golf Course. Parent participation required.
Golf Lessons with PGA Professional Mike Vyletel, Water’s Edge Golf Course. Private or group lessons. Private lessons begin at $50 for half hour. Group of two people, one hour $50 each. Juniors 14 and under and seniors 65 and older half hour lesson for $40. Call Mike Vyletel at (734) 552-7964.
Golf Water’s Edge Golf Course seven days a week. Nine hole course, driving range, putting, chipping green. Very reasonable rates.
Golf Specials through Sept. 1: Tuesdays and Fridays, 9 holes for $10 for Regular, nine holes for $8 for seniors/juniors. Come and enjoy golf at this well maintained course with an inspiring view of the Trenton channel.

Reminder: The Downriver Senior Olympics is being hosted by the city of Trenton July 31-Aug. 4. Must register by June 30. Applications available at the Recreation office. Come and watch the events!
Thursday Night Concerts begin at 7 p.m. at the riverfront at Water’s Edge. Rain or Shine! Every Thursday July 6, 13, 20, 27, Aug. 3, 10, 17 and 24. Bring your chair or blanket.
