Once known as McKee’s Pet Store, a new development taking shape in downtown Trenton will serve to continue to revitalize the area and, once renovations are complete, will improve the overall curb appeal of the site.
Trust One Investment Inc., the property’s owner, is in the process of building a multiuse space that will feature commercial development on the main floor and a loft apartment above.
A representative of Trust One noted that the project should be complete in March or April of 2018, and also added that it has been a project that has been years in the making.
“We had a connection to the building’s owner and she was sentimentally attached to it, but we got down to business and I told her what I envisioned for the site and she approved of it,” said the representative, who did not want to be identified. “So, from there it’s just been years of planning and working toward completing it.”
The construction and development process has seen its fair share of challenges, and the representative of Trust One noted that it has been one of the toughest projects they have personally worked on.
“This project has been very challenging and really it’s probably the toughest project that I’ve worked on. My architect passed away in the middle of the approval project, so I had to go on my own through all of that and it’s just been a big learning experience.”
While the process itself has seen its fair share of ups and downs, the representative lauded the City of Trenton for being business-friendly and making the process as smooth as possible on their end.
“The city has really been excellent to work with. It was a great area for a small company to get involved in and it allows us to grow and help develop communities. It’s a good sign that business is coming back and a sign that businesses are going to come to downtown Trenton.”
The building is set to be ready in the spring, but to this point the owners of the property have only held initial discussions in regards to what business will be moving in to the ground-level area.
For whichever business does move in however, they will be presented with the opportunity to move into a newly renovated building in the heart of Trenton, and they will have the chance to be part of a steadily growing part of town.
As the representative from Trust One Investments Incorporated noted, business owners are seeing the growth potential in Trenton and it’s only a matter of time before the downtown area is booming due to develops like that of the former McKee’s Pet Store.
