On Thursday, Dec. 3, TV’s Grand Event was the site of the sixth annual Christmas for the Troops fundraiser, which was started by Sue Tocco and is now organized by Sue and her friend and colleague, Cindi Ames.
Entry to the event was to bring non-perishable items that could be sent to troops overseas. Guests were treated to mostaccioli, salad, dinner rolls, and truly decadent cupcakes and cookies. Music was provided by the band, “Athens Creek.”
Raffle tickets were sold for two purposes: One was for a 50/50 drawing and other tickets were sold for raffles of a variety of gift baskets. The gift baskets were donated for the event. People could view the baskets and then place their raffle ticket inside a bag in front of the basket and hoped their name would be drawn.
Money from the raffle sales is used to offset mailing expenses. This year packages will be sent to seven servicemen and women in the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines.
One package will go to a medical team serving in Africa, two will go to Afghanistan, one will go to Okinawa, one will go to Korea, and two will go to two different naval ships in parts unknown, the organizers said.
